Our History
The Eritrean Community Cultural and Development Center (ECCDC) was established in 1986 by Eritrean immigrants as a nonprofit community organization. Over the past 38 years, it has played a pivotal role in the San Jose area, enabling Eritrean-Americans to organize, preserve their rich culture and identity, and actively engage within the broader community.
ECCDC serves as a cornerstone for the Eritrean-American population in Santa Clara County and its surrounding areas, offering a range of support services and programs. Throughout its history, ECCDC has maintained a strong collaboration with local and state officials to enhance the well-being and integration of the Eritrean community into the American societal fabric.
Our Mission
The mission of the Eritrean Community Cultural and Development Center (ECCDC) is to offer a variety of services that cater to all age groups, including children, young adults, and senior citizens. We are committed to integrating newcomers into the broader community by educating them about their citizenship duties and privileges and assisting those in need within our community.
Our aim is to establish an outstanding Eritrean-American community center that not only preserves our rich heritage but also makes a positive contribution to the local community at large. Our goals are to maintain our unique culture and identity while being proactive and engaged citizens in our new community and adopted country.
We strive to foster and nurture good relationships with different communities, government entities, and individuals throughout Santa Clara County, California, and the United States, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment for all.
