about us

We’re a deeply connected and community-driven organization, working together to support, uplift, and represent the Eritrean-American community in San Jose and beyond.

Our Mission

The Eritrean Community Cultural and Development Center (ECCDC) is dedicated to serving Eritreans of all ages, including children, young adults, and seniors. We support newcomers by helping them understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens, while also assisting those in need. Our goal is to create a strong Eritrean-American community center that preserves our rich heritage and contributes positively to the broader community. We are committed to maintaining our cultural identity while being active, engaged members of our new home. Through meaningful relationships with other communities, local governments, and organizations across Santa Clara County and the United States, we work to build a more connected and inclusive future for everyone.

Our History

The Eritrean Community Cultural and Development Center (ECCDC) was founded in 1986 by Eritrean immigrants in San Jose as a nonprofit organization. For nearly four decades, it has served as a vital space for Eritrean-Americans to come together, celebrate their culture, and stay connected to their roots while building a life in the United States. ECCDC has played a central role in supporting the Eritrean community throughout Santa Clara County, offering a wide range of services and programs that meet the needs of all generations. From its beginning, the center has worked closely with local and state leaders to help Eritreans feel welcomed, empowered, and engaged in civic life.
